Memorial for Swiss Nightclub Fire Victims Destroyed in Early-Morning Blaze
A memorial dedicated to the 41 victims of a tragic New Year's Eve nightclub fire in Switzerland was destroyed by a fire early Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, near the Le Constellation nightclub. The memorial, which included flowers, candles, and tribute messages, was engulfed in flames just before 6 a.m. The Valais Cantonal Police reported that the fire was quickly controlled by emergency crews, and no injuries were reported. However, several commemorative objects were damaged, although a remembrance book with condolence messages survived. Investigators believe the fire was accidental, likely ignited by candles placed on a table at the center of the shrine. The original nightclub fire, which the memorial honored, resulted in 41 deaths and over 100 injuries. It was reportedly caused by sparklers attached to champagne bottles igniting foam soundproofing in the bar's basement ceiling.
