Spain Recalls Eclipse Glasses Over Safety Concerns for Solar Event
Spain has issued a recall for six types of eclipse glasses due to concerns that they could potentially harm users' eyesight. The recall affects glasses from brands including Lionstar, ECP Eye Care Professional, Pelispan, Orro, Opticalia, and Homanage. Authorities in regions such as Madrid, Castilla y León, Galicia, La Rioja, and Aragón have identified issues with the filters in these glasses, which are reportedly too dark, preventing users from seeing the Sun. This could lead to users removing the glasses while looking at the Sun, risking direct exposure to harmful solar radiation. In response, Spain is distributing around 2 million certified solar observation glasses for free, ensuring safe viewing of the upcoming solar eclipse on August 12.
