Autonomous AI Cyberattack Targets Taiwan, Linked to Chinese Hackers
A groundbreaking cyberattack using autonomous AI has been identified targeting Taiwan, reportedly linked to Chinese hackers. The attack, which lasted four days, compromised 85 government accounts and stole over 2,500 personnel records. It also targeted Taiwan's nuclear safety agency and several energy companies. The attack utilized eight open-source AI models to conduct reconnaissance and intrusion, adapting its tactics when blocked. The breach was first reported by The Financial Times, based on research by Dream, an Israeli AI and cyberdefense company. The attack was disguised as a routine cyber readiness test to bypass AI model guardrails. The use of AI in cyberattacks represents a significant evolution in cyber warfare, allowing for more sophisticated and scalable attacks.
