Pope Leo Condemns Exploitation During Visit to Angola's Diamond-Rich Region
Pope Leo XIV, during his visit to Angola's diamond-rich northeast region of Saurimo, condemned the exploitation and corruption by the wealthy and powerful. This visit is part of his 11-day tour across four African nations. In Saurimo, the capital of the Lunda Sul province, the Pope addressed a crowd of approximately 40,000 people, criticizing the injustices that lead to the concentration of wealth among a few while many live in poverty. Despite Angola's wealth in crude oil and diamonds, a significant portion of its population lives below the poverty line. The Pope's message highlighted the social and environmental damages caused by the exploitation of natural resources. His visit also included a stop at a home for the elderly, where he was welcomed by residents who have been abandoned or are victims of violence.
