Minor Earthquake Reported in Western North Carolina by USGS
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a minor earthquake in Transylvania County, Western North Carolina, on Friday night. The earthquake, which measured a magnitude of 1.8, occurred approximately 5 miles from Rosman, North Carolina, at a depth of 2.18 kilometers. While small earthquakes are common in the region, they rarely cause significant damage. The USGS notes that the area has experienced both minor and moderately damaging earthquakes historically, with the largest recorded at a magnitude of 5.1 in 1916.
