Top 15 U.S. States at Risk of Hurricane Damage Highlighted
A recent analysis by property data firm Cotality has identified the top 15 U.S. states most at risk of hurricane damage, with Florida and Texas leading the list due to their high number of homes exposed to moderate or greater hurricane wind risk. The report also highlights the Northeast, where states like New York and Massachusetts face significant risks due to high population density and property values, despite less frequent hurricane landfalls. In total, over 32.2 million homes across the U.S. are at risk, with a combined reconstruction cost value exceeding $12.26 trillion. New York City, in particular, stands out with the highest reconstruction cost value of over $1.9 billion for hurricane wind damage. The findings emphasize the importance of preparedness for homeowners in both traditionally hurricane-prone areas and regions with less frequent but potentially devastating impacts.
