Elon Musk Summoned by French Authorities Over Alleged Algorithm Manipulation and Other Charges
Elon Musk has been summoned by French authorities to appear before magistrates in Paris on April 20 for a voluntary interview. This is part of an investigation initiated by the Paris prosecutor’s office concerning alleged manipulation of the algorithm of his social network, X. The investigation, which began in January 2025, has expanded to include multiple charges such as algorithm manipulation, apology for anti-Semitism, and creation and distribution of sexualized photomontages. The investigation was triggered by reports from a member of parliament and a senior official at a French public institution, alleging the use of the X/Twitter algorithm for foreign interference. The French justice system is also scrutinizing X's generative artificial intelligence, Grok, for posting antisemitic messages and denying the Holocaust. Complaints have been filed by various organizations, including the French Human Rights League and SOS Racisme, leading to an expanded investigation.
