PRIMA Eye Implant Approved in Europe to Restore Vision for Age-Related Blindness
The PRIMA eye implant, designed to restore vision in individuals with geographic atrophy, a form of age-related macular degeneration, has been approved for use in Europe. Developed by Science Corporation, the implant works with high-tech glasses to restore central vision, allowing users to read and recognize faces. The implant is inserted beneath the retina and works by converting near-infrared light into electric pulses to stimulate retinal neurons. This approval marks the first time such a device has been authorized for use globally, with plans for commercial use in Germany and the UK later this year.
