Brazil's Electoral Court Demands Transparency in Government Advertising Spending
Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has ordered President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government to disclose documentation on institutional advertising spending from 2023 to mid-2026. The order follows a complaint by the Liberal Party, led by presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, alleging that the government exceeded legal spending limits. The TSE's Vice-President, André Mendonça, cited discrepancies and significant values that necessitate urgent information retrieval. The Liberal Party claims the government overspent by R$42.3 million, with the largest recipient being Grupo Globo. The TSE has given the government ten days to provide detailed financial records.
