Rescuers Attempt to Reach Climbers After Fall on Mount McKinley, Alaska
Four climbers fell on Mount McKinley, Alaska, North America's tallest peak, and rescue efforts are underway, according to the National Park Service. The incident occurred near Denali Pass at an elevation of approximately 18,200 feet (5,547 meters). The climbers were part of a seven-person team, with the remaining three members returning to a high camp at 17,000 feet (5,181 meters) after assisting those who fell. Weather conditions on the mountain have been variable, with low cloud ceilings and limited visibility, but are expected to improve soon, allowing for helicopter operations. The climbing season on Mount McKinley typically runs from late April to mid-July, and as of Thursday, 516 climbers were on the mountain. The park service has emphasized the importance of safety measures, such as using snow pickets for protection on steep slopes.
