UK's Starmer Hosts Zelenskyy, Macron, and Merz to Discuss Support for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to host a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss continued support for Ukraine. This meeting underscores the commitment of the U.K., France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3 group, to back Ukraine following Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. The discussions are part of a broader initiative led by the U.K. and France to provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a peace process. The meeting comes in the wake of a significant Ukrainian drone attack on Saint Petersburg, Russia, highlighting Kyiv's increasing capability to strike deep within Russian territory. This attack, which resulted in minor injuries to three people, occurred shortly after the conclusion of the city's flagship economic forum, challenging Russian President Vladimir Putin's narrative that the conflict is a distant issue for Russian citizens.
