Lithuania Constructs New Military Camp Near Belarusian Border to Bolster NATO's Eastern Flank
Lithuania is undertaking the construction of a new military camp at the Rudninkai training ground, approximately 16 kilometers from its border with Belarus. This initiative is a crucial component of NATO's broader strategy to reinforce its eastern flank in response to heightened Russian aggression. The designated seven-hectare plot will host a comprehensive military infrastructure, including barracks, support buildings, technical facilities, and transportation networks, designed for permanent troop accommodation rather than temporary use. The camp, slated for completion in the first half of 2028, will be capable of housing over 1,000 military personnel. It is primarily intended to serve as the main base for Germany's 45th Armored Brigade, which is deploying to Lithuania as a key NATO unit. This deployment marks the Bundeswehr's first permanent overseas mission since World War II, signifying a significant shift in European military strategy.
