Hackers Exploit Meta AI Chatbot to Hijack Instagram Accounts
Hackers have exploited a vulnerability in Meta's AI-powered support chatbot to gain unauthorized access to Instagram accounts. The cyberattack involved deceiving the chatbot into linking new email addresses to existing accounts, allowing hackers to take control. High-profile accounts, including the Obama White House page and the U.S. Space Force Chief Master Sergeant's account, were among those affected. The method involved using a VPN to match the hacker's location with the victim's suspected location, bypassing Instagram's security systems. Once the chatbot linked a new email address, it sent a verification code to the hacker, who then reset the account password. Instagram has since patched the exploit, but the exact number of affected accounts remains unclear.
