Former FBI Director Comey Indicted Over Social Media Post Alleged to Threaten President Trump
Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted over a social media post that officials claim constituted a threat against President Donald Trump. The post, which featured a photo of seashells arranged on a beach, was interpreted by the Trump administration as advocating for the assassination of the president. This indictment is the second against Comey in recent months, following a previous case that was dismissed. The Justice Department, under acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, is pursuing the case, arguing that the post's arrangement of '86 47' could be seen as a threat. Comey has denied any intent to threaten, stating that he did not realize the numbers could be associated with violence and removed the post once he became aware of the interpretation. The case is being prosecuted in the Eastern District of North Carolina, where the photo was taken.
