Louvre Reopens Apollo Gallery After $100 Million Heist, Jewels Still Missing
The Louvre Museum in Paris has reopened its Apollo Gallery to the public, nine months after a daring heist resulted in the theft of crown jewels valued at over $100 million. The gallery, known for its richly decorated 17th-century interior, was closed following the robbery, which occurred in October 2025. During the heist, masked thieves used a basket lift and grinders to break into the gallery, stealing jewels and fleeing on scooters. Despite the reopening, the stolen jewels have not been recovered, except for one piece found broken outside the museum. The museum has since enhanced its security measures, including new surveillance cameras and anti-intrusion systems.
