Nicaraguan Government Delays Constitutional Reform to Exclude Opposition Parties
Nicaragua has postponed the approval of a constitutional reform aimed at excluding opposition parties from elections until September. This decision, announced by Vice President Rosario Murillo, has drawn significant international criticism. The reform is being prepared by the National Assembly and electoral authorities, both controlled by the government, following President Daniel Ortega's request. Ortega has labeled his opponents as 'traitors' and 'coup plotters' serving the United States, and the reform seeks to prevent these groups from participating in future elections.
