Columbia Student Appeals to Supreme Court to Halt Deportation Amid Protests
Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student from Columbia University, is seeking intervention from the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent his deportation. This follows a decision by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia, which declined to review his case. Khalil was detained by U.S. authorities due to his involvement in pro-Palestinian protests, which have been a focal point of President Trump's intensified measures against campus demonstrations related to Israel's ongoing conflict in Gaza. The appeals court's decision in January sided with the government, reinforcing the deportation order against Khalil.
