Lloyd’s Register Grants First Submarine Approval in Principle to Hanwha Ocean
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded its first Approval in Principle (AiP) for a submarine design to Hanwha Ocean, marking a significant milestone in naval procurement. The AiP was granted for Hanwha Ocean's 2,000-tonne export submarine platform, developed independently and assessed using LR's Submarine Assurance Framework. This framework ensures that the design meets international standards for safety, interoperability, and robustness. The approval process involved a global team of naval and submarine specialists and culminated in a technical workshop at Hanwha Ocean's headquarters in Seoul. This development highlights LR's expanding role in providing independent assurance in the defense sector, supporting shipbuilders in accessing the export market.
