Vivian Aisen Appointed as Israel's Ambassador to Colombia Amid Diplomatic Restoration
Vivian Aisen has been appointed as Israel's new ambassador to Colombia, marking a significant step in restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries. This appointment is part of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s broader initiative to renew ties with Colombia and strengthen Israel's relationships across Latin America. Aisen, who has previously served as ambassador to Macedonia and held various roles within Israel's Foreign Ministry, expressed her eagerness to assume her new duties. The diplomatic ties between Israel and Colombia were severed in May 2024 by Colombian President Gustavo Petro due to Israel's military operations in Gaza. However, with the upcoming inauguration of Colombia's new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, on August 7, both nations are set to fully restore their diplomatic relations. This includes the immediate appointment of ambassadors and the opening of a Colombian embassy in Jerusalem.
