Italian Foreign Minister Leads Delegation to Argentina and Brazil to Bolster Economic and Political Ties Post-EU-Mercosur Agreement
Italy's Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, led a significant delegation of over 100 Italian companies, alongside representatives from Confindustria and Italian trade agencies, to Argentina and Brazil. The mission aims to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the recently approved EU-Mercosur agreement, translating it into concrete contracts, investments, and a stronger Italian industrial presence in South America. Tajani emphasized that trade policy and foreign policy are inseparable, viewing the Italian and European presence as an alternative to other global influences in the region. The delegation engaged in approximately 2,800 business-to-business meetings across Buenos Aires and São Paulo, covering sectors from agrifood and mechanical engineering to pharmaceuticals, digital technologies, and energy transition. A bilateral Italian-Brazilian working group is also being established to address non-tariff barriers and bureaucratic obstacles to trade and investment.
