India and Iran Continue Chabahar Port Negotiations Amid U.S. Sanctions
India and Iran are actively negotiating the management of the Chabahar Port, a strategic maritime facility, as the United States seeks renewed peace talks with Tehran. The discussions are crucial for India, which is awaiting the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Iran to secure its interests in the port. The Chabahar Port is vital for India's access to Central Asia, and there are concerns that China might take over the port if India loses its role. India had previously secured a six-month waiver from U.S. sanctions for the port, which expired in April 2026. The negotiations aim to fast-track an arrangement that would ensure India's continued involvement in the port's operations.
