Beth Israel Lahey Health Expands AI Scribe Technology to Combat Physician Burnout
Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), based in Boston, is expanding the use of Heidi's AI scribe technology across its entire health system. This decision follows a successful six-month pilot program involving 1,000 providers. The AI scribe, developed by Australia-based Heidi, is designed to alleviate administrative burdens by automating transcription services and integrating with electronic health records. The expansion will now provide 6,000 providers across BILH's 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices access to this technology. The AI scribe allows healthcare providers to review patient history and notes before appointments and automatically updates electronic health records post-consultation. The initial deployment showed high satisfaction rates among users, with 89% satisfied with note quality and 90% feeling more present with patients.
