European Union Rejects Forced Displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, Opposes Demographic Changes
The European Union has officially rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and opposes attempts to impose demographic or territorial changes on the enclave. A European Commission spokesperson, Christian Wigand, stated that the EU aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which prohibits altering Gaza's demographic or territorial character. Wigand emphasized that Gaza is an integral part of a future Palestinian state and reaffirmed the EU's support for the reunification of the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, under the Palestinian Authority. This stance comes in response to recent statements by senior Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who have proposed plans to facilitate the departure or mass removal of Palestinians from Gaza. The EU has described such rhetoric as unacceptable and called for de-escalation efforts.
