Zelensky Warns Russia of Retaliation for Winter Energy Attacks, Urges 'Energy Truce'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stern warning that Ukraine will retaliate in kind if Russia targets its energy infrastructure this winter. Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum in Kyiv, Zelensky stated that Ukraine has developed the capability to respond symmetrically to any Russian strikes on its power grid. He emphasized that while Ukraine would not cause humanitarian catastrophes like Russia, it would not leave strategic infrastructure attacks unanswered. Zelensky also proposed an 'energy truce' where both countries' energy sectors would be protected, alongside unblocking the Black Sea for maritime food corridors. He highlighted the severe risks the naval deadlock poses for global food security, particularly for the Global South, comparing it to maritime bottlenecks in the Middle East. Additionally, Zelensky urged the U.S. to accelerate a new, comprehensive sanctions package against Russia.
