Three Convicted Political Scammers Seek Pardons from President Trump Amidst Shifting Clemency Norms
Three convicted political scammers—Richard Zeitlin, William Tierney, and Matt Tunstall—have formally sought pardons from President Trump. These individuals collectively defrauded tens of thousands of Americans, including Trump supporters, of over $120 million through fraudulent political committees, charitable organizations, and robocall operations. Their schemes involved dishonest fundraising tactics, such as adopting false identities and even impersonating President Trump. Zeitlin was convicted of wire fraud in 2023 and received a 10-year prison sentence in 2024. Tierney pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in 2019, serving two years and owing over $1 million in restitution. Tunstall, who impersonated President Trump in robocalls, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023. While Tunstall's request was recently denied, Zeitlin's and Tierney's requests are pending.
