US Labor Secretary Chavez-DeRemer Resigns Amid Misconduct Investigation
US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her position as the Labor Department's inspector general nears the conclusion of an investigation into allegations of professional misconduct. The allegations include claims of an affair with a member of her security team and misuse of department resources for personal trips. Chavez-DeRemer, who took office in March 2025, announced her departure as she prepares to transition to the private sector. Her resignation marks the third recent departure from President Trump's cabinet, following the exits of Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi. Keith Sonderling, her deputy, will serve as acting secretary. Chavez-DeRemer's nomination had received bipartisan support, and she was backed by major labor unions such as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the AFL-CIO.
