Las Vegas Community Mourns Slain Metropolitan Police Officer Austin Abdelnabi
Funeral services were held on Friday for Metropolitan Police Department officer Austin Abdelnabi, who was killed in the line of duty on August 4. The 30-year-old officer was honored by hundreds of law enforcement personnel and members of the public at Central Church in Henderson. The ceremony followed a large procession of police and first responder vehicles that traveled through the Las Vegas Valley, including down the Strip, where several hotels displayed Abdelnabi’s photo on their marquees. Officer Abdelnabi was responding to a call about a man waving a gun when he was ambushed and shot eight times. The gunman, Angel Lucas Lindsey, 21, died at the scene after being shot by another Metro officer and sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
