Shoshan Haran Releases Memoir Detailing Hamas Captivity and Post-Release Advocacy
Shoshan Haran, a survivor of 50 days in Hamas captivity, has released her new memoir, 'Mission in Captivity: One Woman’s Struggle to Survive and Save Her Family in Gaza'. The book, originally published in Hebrew and now available in English, details her experiences after being kidnapped from Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, 2023. Haran was taken alongside her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, sister-in-law, and niece. Her husband, Avshal Haran, and other family members were murdered during the attack. After her release, Haran dedicated two years to advocating for the release of remaining hostages, including her son-in-law, Tal Shoham, who was held for 505 days. Her memoir aims to document her ordeal, mourn her losses, and counter what she describes as a campaign to distort the truth about the October 7 attacks. Haran is currently on a U.S. book tour, speaking to Jewish communities and expressing a desire to engage with universities.
