Iranian State Media Warns of Risks as U.S. Resumes Strikes Amid World Cup Preparations
Iranian state media has issued a warning to the United States, highlighting the risks associated with the resumption of U.S. military strikes on Iran. This development comes as the U.S. prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The U.S. Central Command confirmed that American forces targeted Iranian missile launch sites and vessels attempting to lay mines in southern Iran. These actions are part of 'self-defense strikes' following a fragile ceasefire that had been in place since early April. The strikes have led to heightened tensions, with Iran reportedly blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane. The situation has also cast uncertainty over Iran's participation in the World Cup, with the Iranian national soccer team scheduled to play matches in the U.S. and Mexico.
