UK Information Commissioner Urges AI Firms to Enhance Data Transparency, Launches Investigations
The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has called upon major artificial intelligence (AI) companies to improve transparency regarding their processing of personal data. This initiative has led to commitments from ten prominent firms, including Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Cohere, DeepSeek, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Stability AI, to address these concerns. In parallel, the ICO has initiated a call for evidence concerning 'agentic AI,' which refers to AI systems capable of taking autonomous actions within defined parameters. The office is also actively investigating the personal data processing practices of X Internet Unlimited Company and X.AI LLC. These actions are part of a broader UK government effort to regulate AI, with a commitment to implementing all 44 recommendations from the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare.
