US Military Considers Cellphone Ban for Troops Amid Security Concerns

This consideration comes after Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, issued a warning about the risks posed by cellphone videos shared online. These videos, often captured by troops, can inadvertently assist Iran in targeting American bases by providing near real-time intelligence on the success or failure of Iranian strikes. The potential policy change aims to enhance operational security and prevent adversaries from exploiting location data from mobile applications, such as fitness trackers, to target US forces. The Pentagon has consistently emphasized the importance of controlling information release to protect American service members and civilian residents in targeted regions.
