A study on Idesia polycarpa, a woody oil species in China, has developed a comprehensive evaluation framework for pollen viability. This framework integrates micromorphological analysis, optimized staining protocols, and in vitro germination assays. The research identified effective staining methods, such as TTC and red ink, to distinguish viable pollen. The study also established genotype-specific optimal media for in vitro germination, providing a standardized evaluation framework to support germplasm innovation and optimize pollination management.
