Russian and Chinese Military Patrols Near Japan Heighten Regional Tensions
Japan has responded to joint military patrols conducted by Russian and Chinese air forces near its territory. The Japanese Defense Ministry reported that two Russian Tu-95 nuclear-capable bombers and two Chinese H-6 bombers conducted a long-distance joint flight in the Pacific, accompanied by four Chinese J-16 fighter jets. This operation took place between Japan's Okinawa and Miyako islands, areas classified as international waters. Additionally, Russian air force activity was detected in the Sea of Japan, involving an early-warning aircraft and two Su-30 fighters. Japan's Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi expressed concern over these operations, describing them as a show of force against Japan. The joint flight lasted for eight hours, according to Russian news agencies. South Korea also reported that Russian and Chinese planes entered its air defense zone, further escalating regional tensions.
