U.S. Judge Allows Trump Administration to Revoke Deportation Protections for Ethiopians
A U.S. federal judge, Judge Brian Murphy, has ruled that the administration of President Trump can proceed with revoking the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 5,000 Ethiopians. This decision removes the final judicial block that had prevented the government from ending TPS for individual countries. The ruling follows a 6-3 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in June, which limited the ability of courts to review Homeland Security’s efforts to terminate TPS protections. While the Supreme Court’s ruling specifically addressed TPS recipients from Syria and Haiti, its implications extended to other nationalities fighting the termination of their TPS status.
