Iran Conditions Resumption of IAEA Inspections on Security Guarantees for Nuclear Facilities and Scientists
Iran has declared that it will only resume cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and allow inspections once the IAEA officially guarantees the security of its nuclear facilities and scientists. Vahid Ahmadi, a member of Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated that Tehran has completely suspended cooperation with the international agency, including inspections and other forms of interaction. Ahmadi emphasized that IAEA rules stipulate that nuclear facilities of states party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons must be protected from attacks. This decision follows previous strikes on Iran's nuclear infrastructure, after which the IAEA had halted some inspections, citing concerns for the safety of its inspectors and reiterating that nuclear facilities should not be subjected to armed attacks under any circumstances.
