South African Agriculture to Benefit from China-Africa Tariff-Free Trade Agreement
South Africa's agricultural sector is poised to benefit significantly from the China-Africa Economic Partnership Agreement, which recently came into effect. This agreement allows goods from South Africa and 52 other African countries to enter China without tariffs, which previously ranged up to 20%. According to Wandile Sihlobo, Chief Economist for the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa, this development will enhance the competitiveness of South African products like wine and macadamias in the Chinese market. The agreement is set to last for two years, during which South African exporters will enjoy tariff-free access to China, potentially boosting their market share.
