Ghana Demands Russia Cease Recruitment of Citizens for Ukraine War
Ghana has formally requested that Russia stop recruiting its citizens to participate in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This demand was reportedly made during a meeting between the foreign ministers of Ghana and Russia, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirming that similar requests have been received from several other African nations, including South Africa, Kenya, and Botswana. The Center for Countering Disinformation estimates that Russia had recruited approximately 18,000 foreign nationals from 128 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America by the end of 2025, with at least 3,300 of these recruits reportedly killed in combat.
