Thailand Flood Aid Applications Exceed 850,000 Amidst New National Disaster Insurance Implementation
More than 850,000 applications for government flood relief have been submitted across Thailand as of Sunday, following the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) opening registration for households affected by flooding between May 15 and September 30. Eligible households in declared disaster zones across 65 provinces and all 50 Bangkok districts can receive either 5,000 or 9,000 baht. Applications can be made via the government’s Thang Rath app or in person at local offices. Bangkok accounts for the largest share of applications with 371,775, followed by Samut Prakan with 122,786, Pathum Thani with 105,525, and Chachoengsao with 34,604. The national total reached 702,217 by Saturday afternoon, with an additional 149,000 applications by Sunday. A new national disaster insurance program, covering approximately 30 million households, took effect on October 1 and does not apply to floods that began before this date.
