Educators Develop Guidelines for Student AI Use to Enhance Learning and Maintain Integrity
Educators are increasingly focusing on how to guide students in the ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings. Teachers like Sarah Cooper and Michaela Hahn are sharing their experiences and strategies for integrating AI into classrooms while maintaining academic integrity. Cooper, who teaches 8th grade U.S. history and civics, encourages students to use AI for personalized tutoring and editing, while emphasizing the importance of ethical use. Hahn, a language arts teacher, has developed principles to guide students in using AI responsibly, such as setting clear ethical guidelines and promoting critical thinking. Additionally, Braxton Thornley, a senior technology trainer, has co-developed the HUMAN framework to help teachers navigate AI's role in education. This framework includes honing learning goals, understanding AI's limitations, mitigating risks, assessing interactions, and nurturing human connections.
