Mother of Fallen Soldier Oron Shaul Passes Away After Long Illness
Zehava Shaul, the mother of Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, who was killed in action and whose remains were held by Hamas for over a decade, has died at the age of 71. Her family announced her passing after a battle with a serious illness. Zehava was known for her unwavering determination to have her son's remains returned to Israel for burial, a struggle that lasted more than ten years. Oron Shaul was killed in 2014 when his armored personnel carrier was hit by a missile in Gaza. His remains were recovered in a secret operation by the IDF and Shin Bet in January 2025, just before a ceasefire with Hamas. Zehava's dedication to her son's memory and her perseverance became a symbol of hope and strength for many in Israel.
