Anthropic Disrupts Russian and Chinese AI Campaigns Misusing Claude Models for Cyber Espionage and Weapon Development
Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, has revealed that it disrupted several malicious uses of its Claude AI models over the past eight months. These incidents include a suspected Russia-linked cyber espionage campaign and efforts by Chinese AI firms to extract and replicate Claude's capabilities. According to Anthropic's latest Threat Intelligence report, cybercriminals and state-backed hackers are increasingly using AI not just to assist with tasks but to orchestrate and execute significant portions of cyberattacks, often with humans acting as overseers rather than hands-on operators. Anthropic identified and disrupted activities from seven China-based labs, including tech giants like Alibaba, Moonshot, DeepSeek, and Xiaomi.
