Immigration Judge Rescinds Deportation Order for Kentucky State University Basketball Player
An immigration judge has granted a motion to reopen immigration proceedings and rescind a deportation order for Aminata Seck, a Kentucky State University women’s basketball player from Senegal. Seck was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on August 7 at Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport while attempting to travel with her team. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Seck legally entered the U.S. in 2019 but overstayed her welcome, leading to a removal order a year prior after she failed to appear at an immigration hearing. However, her attorney, Hishem Alsalman, confirmed that the immigration judge found Seck did not receive proper notice of the previous proceedings. Seck, a 26-year-old from Dakar, Senegal, will remain in ICE custody pending her new hearing scheduled for November 26.
