Comcast Xfinity Introduces Wi-Fi Motion Sensing for Home Security
Comcast has launched Xfinity Shield, a new home-security platform that integrates Wi-Fi Motion technology into compatible Xfinity Wi-Fi routers. This feature allows the routers to detect movement within a home without requiring cameras or dedicated motion sensors. Xfinity Shield, including Wi-Fi Motion, is available at no additional cost to eligible Xfinity customers, provided they have compatible equipment and meet other requirements. The technology works by using algorithms to monitor changes in Wi-Fi frequencies, identifying small patterns of interference caused by human movement. This approach aims to enhance privacy by offering motion detection without visual surveillance. The platform also incorporates existing security features such as firewalls, router cybersecurity, parental controls, and related app alerts. Users can choose from different security modes like Home Watch, Away Watch, and Dark Watch to enable or disable features based on their activity and presence in the home.
