Unidentified Object Causes Flight Disruptions at Leipzig Airport, Investigation Underway
An unidentified object caused significant disruption at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, leading to the suspension of flight operations and the diversion of several aircraft, including a passenger plane. The incident occurred overnight into Wednesday, prompting an investigation by German police. A bomb disposal robot was deployed as part of the investigation, and a detonator attached to a drone was removed. The airport, a major cargo hub in Europe, has been hosting Ukraine's Antonov Airlines since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The incident involved a modified drone found near a Ukrainian transport plane and another unidentified object that collided with a cargo plane, which was diverted to Hannover Airport. The investigation is being handled by counter-terrorism police and state prosecutors.
