European Commission Fines AliExpress 550 Million Euros for Unsafe and Counterfeit Goods
The European Commission has imposed a record fine of 550 million euros ($629 million) on AliExpress, a Chinese online marketplace, for failing to adequately address the sale of unsafe and counterfeit products on its platform. This penalty is the largest ever under the European Union's Digital Services Act, which aims to protect consumers from harmful online content. The fine follows a preliminary ruling in June 2025, which found AliExpress lacking in its efforts to combat illegal product sales. The company has been given until October 20 to submit an action plan to rectify these issues. AliExpress has expressed disagreement with the fine, citing its ongoing commitment to compliance and consumer protection.
