U.S. Coast Guard Continues Search for Missing Crew After Overturned Ship Found Near Saipan
The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that an overturned ship found near Saipan is the vessel that went missing with six crew members on board following a typhoon. The ship, identified as the Mariana, was discovered after it experienced engine failure amid the storm. The Coast Guard, along with agencies from Guam, Japan, and New Zealand, has been conducting an extensive search covering over 75,000 square nautical miles. The search efforts include the deployment of rescuers, divers, and boats, with plans to use an underwater remotely operated drone if a viable access point is located. The Mariana, a 145-foot dry cargo vessel, lost contact after reporting engine issues, and its last known position was about 140 miles north-northwest of Saipan.
