Representative Don Beyer's Office Welcomes AI Policy Senior Fellow from Progressive Policy Institute
The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) has appointed Astri Kimball Van Dyke as a senior fellow for AI policy, who will serve in the Capitol Hill office of Representative Don Beyer (D-Va.). In this new role, Van Dyke will concentrate on enhancing Congress's technical understanding and legislative capacity concerning the development and regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and its associated infrastructure within the United States. Van Dyke brings extensive experience, including 12 years at Google, where she most recently led its global competition policy team, and prior service as a political appointee in the Obama administration, including as deputy counsel to then-Vice President Joe Biden. This initiative marks PPI as the first think tank to embed an AI policy expert directly within a congressional office, complementing its existing congressional policy fellowships.
