US Soldier Charged with Insider Trading on Maduro Removal Bets
Gannon Ken Van Dyke, a master sergeant with the US Army Special Forces, has been charged with making $400,000 by betting on the removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro using confidential government information. The Justice Department announced the charges, marking the first insider trading case involving a prediction market. Van Dyke allegedly used classified information to place bets on Polymarket, predicting US forces would enter Venezuela and Maduro would be ousted. He faces charges of unlawful use of confidential information, commodities fraud, and wire fraud.
