Ohio Man Pleads Guilty to Attacking Vice President JD Vance's Cincinnati Home
William D. DeFoor, a 26-year-old Ohio man, has pleaded guilty in federal court to vandalizing the Cincinnati home of Vice President JD Vance with a hammer. The incident occurred around midnight on January 5, 2026, while Vice President Vance and his family were not at the residence, having recently returned to Washington, D.C. U.S. Secret Service agents observed DeFoor running along the front fence of the protected residence. He then attempted to break the driver's side window of an unmarked federal law enforcement vehicle with a hammer and subsequently smashed panels of large historic glass windows at the front of the house. The damage included approximately $28,000 worth of federally owned enhanced security hardware. DeFoor was apprehended by Secret Service agents and Cincinnati police after attempting to flee. Federal charges for such acts are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
