Major Cincinnati Interstates and Gilbert Avenue to Close for Pedestrian Bridge Construction
Drivers in Cincinnati will face significant detours this week due to overnight closures on Interstate 71, Interstate 471, and Gilbert Avenue. These closures are necessary for the installation of steel beams and the pouring of concrete for a new pedestrian bridge. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that contractors will be working on a new pedestrian bridge system designed to connect the Mount Adams area with downtown Cincinnati, spanning Gilbert Avenue, I-71, and I-471 near East Court Street. On Wednesday, ramps from Liberty Street and I-71 South to I-471 South will close from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday, along with Gilbert Avenue between Elsinore Place and Eggleston Avenue. More extensive closures are scheduled for Thursday, including both directions of I-71 between Reading Road and the Lytle Tunnel, and I-471 North from the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge approach to I-71.
